IPB holds the Second General Winner in the National Scientific Student Festival XX (PIMNAS), Thursday, 26 July 2007

The prestigious national event, the National Scientific Student Festival XX of 2007, which has recently ended and took place in University of Lampung from 17 - 22 July 2007 with the theme "Improve the Achievement in the Nation's Competitiveness", is a scientific forum involving the biggest number of participating universities in the history of PIMNAS, namely 175 participants consisting of 85 state universities and 90 private universities.

From the event, IPB as the Second General Winner has brought home four golds, seven silvers and three bronzes. The First General Winner is University of Gajah Mada (UGM) with six golds and four silvers and the Third Winner is Brawijaya University (Unibraw) winning two golds, four silvers and one bronze. Further, IPB also wins the First Champion in the Student Scientific Paper Exhibition (PKIM), the Third Winner in Mandarin Debate, and is categorized into the five best participants in the English Debate as well as in the competition of Applied Programming for Problem Solving Security. In addition, IPB has taken an active role as the key speaker during the discussion with student-supervising lecturers on the topic "Empowerment of Lecturers on the Supervision of Student Affairs in Reasoning: IPB's Experience".
For this PIMNAS, the mission of IPB is to create a good atmosphere of scientific competition and pride in national achievement. This hope comes out after the twenty years of PIMNAS, and thus for the future and on, it must become the yardstick or barometer of students' scientific achievement and pride at the national level, which in the long run can push students' achievement into a higher level, i.e. international level. "We would like to provide an example or model and share experience with all of the participating universities so that they are proud of their students' creative achievements, and produce a sound and just atmosphere of competition", said Dr Rimbawan, who was invited as a speaker in the Discussion with Student-Supervising Lecturers of the PIMNAS XX.

Such atmosphere was introduced in Student Scientific Paper Exhibition, in which IPB presented students' scientific works winning the championships in the various national scientific competitions of 2007. The theme of the exhibition was made more interesting with the title "Agriculture-based Appropriate Technology toward the Nation's Independence". "We would like to invite participants and the public to remain proud of agriculture and agriculture can make us independent people", said Mr. Bambang Riyanto S.Pi M.Si., the leader of IPB team during the PIMNAS XX.

Everyday IPB's exhibiting stand was visited by the highest number of participants, reaching more than 400 visitors. To make it more alive, a number of works of excellence were not only displayed but also demonstrated in front of the participants of PIMNAS and the public, for example, the ‘horta' doll (a lively doll with hairs made from grasses that must be well maintained), peppers of varying degrees of hot falvors, IPB papaya, battery from banana leaves, oven from drainage mud, hydrogel plants, floating hydrophonic vegetables, hydro parks or parks in homes, chitosan-based catalytic converter of vehicle exhaust gas, sound-resistance board (fybre) made from seaweed residue, biopori and biotoilet.
The greatest pride for IPB is the success in obtaining the Third Winner for the Mandarin Debating Competition because despite having no a Faculty of Languages, IPB was able to compete in such event.
